Ramirez Solar House Architectural Review and Walking Tour
The maximum of 24 persons for the walking tour of the property is now full. But please do not hesitate to register anyway, knowing you will likely only be able to attend the presentation. If there are cancellations or no-shows, you may be able to join the tour on a first come - first serve basis.
The presentation alone on the Ramirez Solar House (it is passive solar, no panels) is well-worth the trip!
The Ramirez Solar House, nominated to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, is one of the earliest examples of passive solar residential design (known as the second solar house in the United States and earliest surviving example in this country). And it is right here in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and owned by the National Park Service.
Jessica Jamroz, an award-winning, multi-disciplinary design and construction professional who has consulted on the Ramirez Solar house in the past, will be presenting the historical significance of the house and its cultural value. In 2012 Jessica consulted with the National Park Service on the preservation of this critical property. Her knowledge and love of this house is very impressive and apparent once you meet her.
The presentation will take place at PEEC, the Pocono Environmental Education Center, starting on October 23rd starting at 11:30AM.
Following the presentation there is the opportunity to tour of the Ramirez Solar House property with Jessica for up to 24 people. The property has no public parking, so the access of our group needs to be limited. Two groups of 12 each will be driven to the property (one group at a time) after the presentation via PEEC vans, allowing one group at a time to tour the property. Each group will be taken back to PEEC after their tour. The first group would leave PEEC right after the presentation. The second group would be picked about 45 minutes after the presentation. Time for a peek at PEEC!!
The event will be held at:
Pocono Environmental Education Center, 538 Emery Rd, Dingmans Ferry, PA 18328
Sunday October 23rd at 11:30 AM
A donation box will be available to help the Friends. All donations will be used to support the Friends of DWGNRA or support the park directly.
Please pre-register if you want to be on the walking tour. Pre-registration helps even if you are only attending the presentation. It will save time when you arrive. Pre-register by entering your info below. Remember, space is limited on the walking tour!!
